  • 1 lb ground turkey or beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 oz uncooked lasagna noodles, broken into pieces
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground turkey or beef over medium heat for about 5–7 minutes.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent (about 3 minutes). Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Pour in crushed tomatoes, broth, and water. Add Italian seasoning and sugar; season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Add broken lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente (10–12 minutes).
  5. While the noodles cook, mix ricotta cheese with half of the mozzarella and Parmesan in a bowl until combined.
  6. Once noodles are cooked, stir in the cheese mixture until creamy.
  7. Serve hot topped with remaining mozzarella and fresh basil if desired.
