  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 large egg (or vegan option: 1 tbsp flaxseed meal + 3 tbsp water)
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the drained black beans with a fork until slightly smooth but still chunky.
  2. Sauté the chopped onions in a skillet over medium heat for about 3 minutes until soft. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Combine sautéed onions and garlic with mashed black beans. Stir in breadcrumbs, egg (or flaxseed mixture), cumin, chili powder, cilantro (if using), salt, and pepper until well mixed.
  4. Shape the mixture into four patties using your hands.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook each patty for about 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
