  • 2 tbsp oregano (dried)
  • 1 tbsp thyme (dried)
  • 1 tsp rosemary (dried, crushed)
  • 2 tsp marjoram (dried)
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • Oil (for cooking)
  • Pita bread
  • Fresh lettuce (sliced)
  • Tzatziki sauce
  • Tomatoes (sliced)
  • Red onions (sliced)
  • Feta cheese (crumbled)
  • French fries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Puree onion and garlic in a food processor until smooth.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef and lamb with pureed onion, garlic, spices, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. For enhanced flavor, refrigerate the mixture for 2 hours to 24 hours.
  4. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  5. Shape the meat mixture into a log and wrap it in foil with a skewer for stability.
  6. Bake on a lined tray for about 1.5 hours; flip halfway through cooking.
  7. Allow resting before slicing thin pieces.
  8. Heat oil in a skillet to crisp sliced gyro meat for added texture.
  9. Assemble gyros with pita bread, tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and gyro meat.
