  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste
  • 12 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Beat softened butter and sugar in a separate bowl until light and fluffy; then add eggs one at a time and mix in vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding the dry mixture and buttermilk to the butter mixture until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 22-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before glazing.

  7. Pour glaze over cooled bars and let set before slicing.
