  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage by removing the core and blanching the leaves in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until pliable. Trim the thickest part of the core.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Take one cabbage leaf, add a portion of the filling, fold in the sides, and roll tightly from the stem end.
  4. Place rolls seam-side down in a large pot or Dutch oven.
  5. For the sauce, mix crushed tomatoes, beef broth, paprika, and marjoram in a separate bowl; pour over the cabbage rolls.
  6. Cover and simmer on low heat for 1.5 to 2 hours until the cabbage is tender and filling is cooked through.
  7. Serve hot with extra sauce.
