  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and dust them with flour.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
  4. Add in the eggs one at a time along with vanilla extract, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in sour cream and milk until smooth.
  6. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture. Fold in the chopped toasted pecans.
  7. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Allow cakes to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  9. In a mixing bowl, beat together the powdered sugar, softened butter, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  10. Place one layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting on top, then place the second layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake.
  11. Finish by sprinkling with chopped pecans.
